The Wedding Gown Construction Project

Updated 21 March 2010! Happy Spring! Gown Details photos!
View the Muslin!

Susan is making her own wedding gown, based on "A woman's sack-back of ivory figured silk" gown from the book Historical Fashion in Detail, by Avril Hart and Susan North.

You can see a gown that is similar on the Victoria and Albert Museum website. On this dress' page is a 360° "3-D" Quicktime video.

If you can't get to the gown link directly, go to the V&A website and search for T.180&A-1965. You may be able to use the V&A's Collections Search link to search on the above reference number.

Gown Materials
The gown will be made of silk in a light peach, striped in white and light yellow. The lace is ivory.

Gown Fabric
A full muslin will be required. This lovely, cheap, light cotton came from
Building 19, in a delightful fruit pattern (shown here with two highly-involved assistants):

In the beginning...
Every beautiful gown starts with sturdy foundation garments:

(Of course, Mark's first thought about this photo was,
"Look, dear, now there's a picture of you in your underwear on the Internet!")
